How We Believe
The basis of the Conservative Laestadianism
is the Bible and the Lutheran confession. The central issue here is the sermon
of Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection. The work of Christ continues here
on the earth through the work of the Holy Spirit in His congregations.
In Conservative Laestadianism it is taught
that the Holy Spirit provides the justification work through the gospel. God
justifies the sinner in His congregation. Jesus has given the congregation and
its members the office of atonement. The office of the proclamation of the
gospel is the office of the Holy Spirit. His own use this authority. In
proclaiming the gospel to all created they also proclaim the words of the
remission of sins, which is the core of the gospel. There, the forgiveness of
sins is preached unto the sinner in Jesus’ name and blood. Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of
Christ.
The most important part of the doctrine
content is the principles of the Reformation. According to these principles,
the Bible is the highest authority in questions of faith and life and that a
person is justified solely by faith, solely by grace, solely for the sake of
Christ.
Faith is a
gift of God. God has given every child born on Earth the gift of faith.
Baptism is
the union of a good conscience with God, and in it God
strengthens the faith of a child and lifts him/her up into the care of the
congregation. For the person, who has fallen away from the grace of Baptism,
faith can be received again as a gift through repentance.
Repentance
is a change of mind. It contains, according to Luther, a feeling of regret and
trouble for the sins, but also believing the gospel, the forgiveness of sins.
The core of the gospel is the forgiveness of sins.
Communion is
the memorial supper set forth by Jesus. It is meant for believers for the
strengthening of faith.
The Kingdom of God is according to the words of Jesus, found here upon the Earth. Here
upon Earth it is the kingdom of grace, and in
Heaven, the kingdom of glory. The congregation of God is unanimous in faith,
doctrine and love.
